PIPA & SOPA
PIPA and SOPA were two bills that if
they got passed through congress and the senate; the Government could see what
the American citizens looked up on the Internet.
SOPA stands for, Stop Online Piracy Act; but there
were some other reasons that the congress declined this bill. The search
engine’s operators shut their websites down in a fury of protests. But another
reason was that, the person who reads all the bills and advises the Government
on what to decide. Also, they found that in the bill that if it got passed the
Government could block whatever they wanted at any time. Finally, one main
website they were targeting was Pirate’s Bay, because people could watch
whatever Hollywood major film for free.
PIPA stands for, Protect Intellectual Property Act; PIPA
could have stopped rouge websites from selling their counter fit goods. The
senate passed this bill but a congressman put a hold on it and basically said
we’ll deal with this later. Another website the Government wanted to block was
called Mega Upload. Watching some websites like these can be considered illegal
depending on how you look at it. Finally, PIPA and SOPA were just a flat out
bad idea because people will eventually stop using the Internet.
A really cool video about PIPA and SOPA
The other side of the Question
Info found on
The Stop Online
Piracy Act (SOPA) is the bill being considered by the House of
Representatives.
The Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) is the parallel bill
being considered by the Senate.
The proposed
legislation is designed to tackle online piracy, with particular emphasis on
illegal copies of films and other forms of media hosted on foreign servers.
The bills
propose that anyone found guilty of streaming copyrighted content without
permission 10 or more times within six months should face up to five years in
jail.
The US
government and rights holders would have the right to seek court orders against
any site accused of "enabling or facilitating" piracy. This could
theoretically involve an entire website being shut down because it contains a
link to a suspect site.
US-based
Internet service providers, payment processors and advertisers would be
outlawed from doing business with alleged copyright infringers. SOPA also calls
for search engines to remove infringing sites from their results – PIPA does
not include this provision.
The bills
would also outlaw sites from containing information about how to access blocked
sites.
The bills
originally demanded that Internet service provider’s block users from being
able to access suspect sites using a technique called Domain Name System (DNS)
blocking.
FINALLY
PIPA and SOPA
were all in all just a bad idea and we all know that they will be making
efforts to try to pass these kinds of laws again. But the people may make a
huge packet and make it seem really good like for saving endangered species but
may hide that info in the smallest print. Finally, I hope you enjoy and comment also, give me some of your feedback.
